Somatic Exercises are ways to clear trauma from the nervous system. Have you ever noticed how tight your throat feels when you can’t say what you really need to say, or the tension in your body after an argument? If you’ve ever seen someone storm clean, pound their steering wheel, or scream out of frustration, those are great examples of somatic practices – though probably done out of rage in the moment, it’s a legitmate way to move the energy in the body.

At the core, we are animals, and animals process trauma not with words but with the body, and somatics. If you’ve ever seen a cat shake it’s little head after a brawl with one of it’s housemates or after play, it’s simulating the same behavior. Animals automatically ‘shake it off,’ run, yowl, kick, dig, and get the zoomies.

If you’ve ever wondered why people don’t get t he zoomies – we do, it was just beaten out of us in childhood. (HAHA… ) It’s really not funny, even though it kind of is.
